corvallis-osu symphony during a performance

The Corvallis-OSU Symphony, lead by music director Dr. Marlan Carlson is the oldest continuously operating orchestra in the state of Oregon. From its inception in 1906 as a collegiate orchestra composed of nine members, the symphony has grown into a respected 110-member ensemble performing 4-5 major classical concerts each season. Professional musicians from throughout the Willamette Valley are joined by talented community members and students. Regular rehearsals are held on Monday events at Community Hall on the OSU campus.

Students may participate for academic credit or through the SAC Academy as an extra-curricular activity. Orchestra scholarships are available to students of all majors, and many orchestra scholarship recipients are pursuing majors in the sciences, engineering or business. Repertoire from recent seasons has included Mahler's Second, Fifth and Sixth symphonies, Richard Strauss's "Alpine Symphony," "Ein Heldenleben" and "Sinfonia Domestica," the Fourth, Fifth and Tenth Symphonies of Shostakovich as well as major works by Stravinsky, Vaughan Williams and Brahms. Regular rehearsals for the full orchestra are held on Monday evenings.

Highlights from the 2018-2019 season include: Carl Nielsen Symphony No.5, Leonard Bernstein's "Chichester Psalms," Igor Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring" and Gustav Mahler's 9th Symphony.
