2018-2019 Instrumental Ensemble Placement Auditions are:

  • All instrumental auditions will be held in Benton Hall.
  • Horn: Sunday, September 16 from 10:00am-12:00pm in Benton Hall 202.
  • Trumpet: Sunday, September 16 from 1:00-3:00pm in Benton Hall 202.
  • Trombone: Monday, September 17 from 10:00am-12:00pm in Benton Hall 202.
  • Euphonium/Tuba: Tuesday, September 18 from 10:00am-12:00pm in Benton Hall 202.
  • Percussion: Tuesday, September 18 from 10:00am-12:00pm in Benton Hall Percussion Studio.
  • Flute: Monday, September 17 from 10:00am-12:00pm in Benton Hall 200D.
  • Oboe: Sunday, September 16 from 3:00-5:00pm in Benton Hall 200D.
  • Clarinet: Sunday, September 16 from 3:00-5:00pm in Benton Hall 202.
  • Bassoon: Sunday, September 16 from 10:00am-12:00pm in Benton Hall 200D.
  • Saxophone: Sunday, September 16 from 3:00-5:00pm in Benton Hall 200D.

*No audition is required for Campus Band. Read about Oregon State University Bands and decide whether a placement audition is appropriate for you.

Register for a placement auditon:

  1. Please submit the Instrumental Ensemble Placement Form by Monday, September 3.
  2. You will select your audition time and location when registering online.
  3. Audition music PDFS will be posted on this website during the first week of September.
  4. All communications will be sent via email to your Oregon State University email address. 

Auditions are 8 minutes long.

The audition will consist of the following:

  1. Auditions are blind (judges behind a screen).
  2. Please prepare a 3 minute excerpt of your choice.
  3. Please prepare the audition music posted below.
  4. There will be sight reading during your audition.

Additional audition tips:

  • Bring your class schedule with you.
  • You will be greeted by music students who know the process and can answer questions, and you will be auditioning for a few members of the OSU faculty, who are eager to listen to you and have you join us.
  • Hydrate well - it can be very warm in mid-September in the Willamette Valley!
  • Keep a consistent practice routine all summer. We want to hear you at your very best.
