Students wishing to receive credit for this ensemble must register for MUS 160 / 360
The Corvallis-OSU Symphony, lead by music director Dr. Marlan Carlson, is an ensemble of about 130 members consisting of students, music faculty, community players and professional musicians from Eugene, Salem and Portland. Students may participate for credit or as auditors simply for enjoyment. Orchestra scholarships are available to students of all majors, and many orchestra scholarship recipients are pursuing majors in the sciences, engineering or business. Repertoire from recent seasons has included Mahler's Second, Fifth and Sixth symphonies, Richard Strauss's Alpine Symphony, Ein Heldenleben and Sinfonia Domestica, the Fourth, Fifth and Tenth Symphonies of Shostakovich as well as major works by Stravinsky, Vaughan Williams and Brahms. Highlights from the 2015-2016 season included: Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, the Bartok Miraculous Mandarin Suite, Richard Strauss's Also Sprach Zarathustra and Mahler's Seventh Symphony.
