### THIS SITE WAS REVISED TO PROVIDE INFLATION CONVERSION FACTORS FOR 2016 (FINAL DATA) on February 20, 2017.

**The inflation conversion factor tables for 2016 have been revised to reflect final 2016 CPI (2.40007). They will be revised later to provide estimated inflation and price levels for 2017 through 2027, based on the average of inflation estimates by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). The CBO has provided those estimates but the OMB has not yet done so.**

**Inflation assumptions**: The 2016 pdf and Excel files do not yet show estimates for future years, for reasons stated immediately above. The conversion factors table for 2015 assumed 2.10% inflation in 2016, 2.20% in 2017, and 2.35% in each year 2018 through 2026. These are averages of OMB and CBO inflation estimates as of January (CBO) and February (OMB) 2016. **Note**: The early 2016 average inflation estimate for 2016 by CBO and OMB was 1.40%. The final inflation rate was 1.01%.

Conversion factor tables are available as Portable Document Format (pdf) files and also in Excel format, for direct use in conversion. The tables of conversion factors below cover the period 1774 to estimated 2026.

Early-year estimates of price-level changes (inflation) often diverge from the final inflation measure for the year, as shown in the differences between early-year and final inflation estimates for recent years table, final conversion factors in recent years have differed significantly from estimated conversion factors early in the year.) For example, the final inflation rate for 2015 was 0.1 percent, significantly less than the 1.25 percent estimated early in 2015.

**Following are the files of conversion factors for each year. Only 2016 have been updated in 2017 to reflect final 2016 CPI. For other years, use the file (Excel and pdf) that provides conversion factors for all years, which will be loaded later, after final inflation estimates have been provided by both the CBO and the OMB**.

**The 2016 conversion factors immediately above have been revised to reflect the final 2016 Consumer Price Index. They do not yet provide conversion factor estimates for years 2017 to 2027. As noted above, these will be provided later, after the Office of Management and Budget has provided inflation estimates for future years. The following have been revised to reflect final 2015 CPI but not yet 2016 CPI.**

- Conversion Factors in
**2015 Dollars, using CPI-U-X1 for 1950 to 2015** (CPI-U-X1 applies the post-1983 CPI to the entire period starting in 1950, for comparability during that entire period. By definition, the CPI-U and CPI-U-RS is the same after 1983. **pdf**** Excel**

- Conversion Factors in
**2015 Dollars, using CPI-U-RS for 1947 to 2015** (CPI-U-RS is “Research Series,” with 1977 = 100, extended to 1947 by the Census Bureau), re-based here to 2015 = 1.000. Note that unlike other CPI measures, the CPI-U-RS data can be revised each year for earlier years, not just for the most recent year. For that reason, no estimated CPI-U-RS conversion factors are supplied for any year after 2015. **pdf**** Excel**

- Conversion Factors in
**2015 Dollars, Using both CPI-U-X1 and CPI-U-RS** for 1947 to estimated 2026 (this combines the previous two tables, but omits inflation comparison 1950-1982; also the CPI-U-RS conversion factors are included only through 2015, for reasons stated above)** pdf**** Excel **

Original data for the CPI-U-RS are available from the **Bureau of Labor Statistics**

**Reminder**: **Conversion factors for years prior to 1913** should be considered to be **estimates**. In addition, CPI measures have changed over time, so data for the entire period are not precisely comparable. Note that conversion factors that apply the post-1982 CPI to the period 1950 to 1982 are available above as the CPI-U-X1, in 2013 dollars.

From the main Bureau of Labor Statistics **CPI ****page**, many data are available, including a complete table of monthly CPI-U data with semi-annual and annual changes from 1913 to the present.
