Before Mas Subramanian's chemistry lab discovered a brand new pigment of blue (dubbed "YInMn" [yin-min] blue), he wasn't anticipating to find anything that would garner the attention of the fine arts community. Serendipity led to a collaboration between Subramanian and OSU painting professor Julie Green, who has historically incorporated blue as a primary element of her original works. While the pigment has yet to become commercially available, OSU fine arts students had the opportunity to paint with this rare hue on the same campus where this promising new material was discovered.
Oregon State University’s Fairbanks Gallery is hosting a summer exhibit of current work by OSU art faculty members through Aug. 30 in Fairbanks Hall, 220 SW 26th St., Corvallis.
The exhibit includes works by Evan Baden, Michael Boonstra, Julia Bradshaw, Anna Fidler, Julie Green, Yuji Hiratsuka, Shelley Jordon, Andrew Myers, Andrew Nigon, Kerry Skarbakka, Katherine Spinella, Matt Williams, and John Whitten. It will showcase an array of styles and approaches to creating art, with work shown in areas of photography, painting, drawing, mixed media, printmaking and video.
Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extra hours during the Corvallis Arts Walk: Thursday, July 19, 4-8 p.m. and Thursday, Aug. 16, 4-8 p.m.
