- CLA adheres to the OSU Code of Student Conduct which can be found here.
- Faculty can find out more about academic misconduct and make reports here.
- As CLA’s College Hearing Officer, Associate Dean Nicole von Germeten will receive all reports with allegations of academic misconduct for any class taught within CLA
- OSU’s conduct process is reparative and student-focused.
- Faculty are not required to report all incidents, but please note the following important details:
- If a CLA faculty person suspects that a student has turned in work that is not their own or engaged in any other form of academic misconduct, they may reach out to the student and suggest redoing the assignment correctly.
- If the issue has to do with incorrect citation formatting within an academic discipline, faculty should grade the student according to the standards of their course.
- However, faculty should not grade down for suspected academic misconduct. Doing so can create prolonged conflicts between faculty and students; avoids OSU’s official process; and prevents the Dean of Students Office from tracking repeat incidents.
- OSU processes can be found here.
- CLA follows the above with very slight modifications
- Students/faculty must first attempt to converse 1-1 about any concerns/issues
- If the faculty member or student is not satisfied with the discussion, the next person to mediate must be the school head.
- It is strongly recommended that the school head request to meet the student 1-1 and not attempt to solve the concern over email
- If the issues cannot be resolved at the school level, the school head should compose an email to the student directing them to email Associate Dean Nicole von Germeten to arrange a meeting
- The school head should then provide a formal description of the concerns to Associate Dean von Germeten in an email.
- If the issue is still not resolved, Associate Dean von Germeten will contact the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts.
- Faculty can also report behavioral misconduct at this link.
If you have serious concerns about a student’s wellbeing, after letting them know OSU’s resources, please reach out via email to Assistant Dean Karen Sullivan-Vance and Associate Dean Nicole von Germeten.
