I was born and raised in a small farming community in Indiana. As a first-generation student, I attended Purdue University where I experienced an entirely different world. At first, I struggled and saw my classmates as smarter, wealthier, and more competent than me. It took some time to adapt and develop some self-confidence. Thanks to the support from my advisors, professors, and mentors, I was able to identify my own uniqueness and the many opportunities awaiting me.

After receiving my B.A. in Psychology and M.S. in Education, I began my professional career working in mental health and social services. However, I quickly discovered my true calling in higher education and now have over 25 years’ experience coaching, advising and mentoring students.

My favorite part of working in higher education is contributing to the empowerment of my students. And because of my first-generation roots, I constantly strive to be the person I needed when I first started college.

When I am not at work, I enjoy gardening, sewing, watching the NFL, and playing golf. I am also an avid Star Wars fan.
