H. Rakes earned their PhD at DePaul University in Philosophy. Their research areas include queer theory, queer of color critique, disability studies, trans studies, and women of color feminisms—especially the convergences of these fields. Their most recent publication provides a reading of neocolonial neoliberal flexibility as a practice of white privilege and other forms of privilege by the character Piper Chapman in Orange is the New Black.
