Jorge Estrada (him, his, él) has been an Ecampus instructor in World Languages and Cultures (WLC) and Ethnic Studies at Oregon State University since 2019. His areas of study include Latin American and Latinx literature, film, cultural studies, gender and sexuality, and jotería studies. He earned his Ph.D. in Spanish and Portuguese from the University of New Mexico, where he also attended as an undergraduate. As an interdisciplinary and transnational scholar, Dr. Estrada employs a hemispheric approach in his courses and research, paying particular attention to historical processes in Mexico and Latin America and their relation to the Chicanx and Latinx diaspora in the U.S. He is currently working on a research project where he examines allegories of monstrosity used for non-heteronormative identities in Mexican and Latinx literature. Additionally, Dr. Estrada currently serves on the board of AJAAS, the Association for Jotería Arts, Activism, and Scholarship.
