Experts on Emotional Intelligence like Eduard Punset have pointed out the importance of positive experiences as a condition for learning.  Something like ‘I will not remember what you tell me or what you teach me. I will only remember how you make me feel.’  I often reminisce about my native Nicaragua, and my most cherished memories are with my family, my community, and my school mates.  All the learning that happened during those years has never left me, and have shaped the person who I am today. In the Chillán Study Abroad Program, students return with great memories about their host families, their new friends, their travels, and with great newly-gained language skills. These are lasting memories.  My goal in class is to create an engaging space in which the different class themes are the platform to use the language in a safe setting for all, encouraging everybody to realize their full potential.
