Regan A. R. Gurung is a social psychologist by training with research encompassing social, health, and pedagogical psychology.  Over 130 of his articles have been published in peer-reviewed journals and he has co-authored/co-edited 15 books. His most recent books are Teach Like a Champ (with Elizabeth Yost Hammer), Thriving in Academia (with Pam Ansburg and Mark Basham), and Study Like a Champ (with John Dunlosky). He was a founding co-editor of APA's journal Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Psychology, co-chaired the APA General Psychology Initiative, and is past president of the Society for the Teaching of Psychology, and Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology.

Dr. Gurung taught at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay for twenty years before moving to Corvallis in 2019.

Research/Career Interests

Dr. Gurung is interested in helping students learn effectively. He is currently unpacking the factors that can increase learning in higher education. His work also investigates ways to diffuse prejudice (including racism and sexism, and the role of clothing), especially in the context of learning. In his Applied Social Cognition (ASC) Lab, undergraduate and graduate students work with him to “ASC” the tough questions: Applied Social Cognition (ASC) Lab.  If you are an OSU undergrad interested in working in the lab, visit the lab website and complete an application (Full for 2023-24).
