After serving 24 seasons as Violin I tutti in the North Carolina Symphony in the “Governor James B Hunt” Chair, So Yun is thrilled to start her next chapter in academia as Instructional String (Violin) Faculty at The School of Visual Performing and Design Arts at Oregon State University in Corvallis, OR. An avid teacher, So Yun was on faculty at Eastern Music Festival for over a decade under Gerard Schwarz, coached chamber music through NCCMI (NC Chamber Music Institute) based in Raliegh, NC , did community outreach at The HUG School of Music and Arts in Kohn Kaen, Thailand while maintaining her own private studio throughout the years. So Yun received her fist training with her father Chan Young Kim and went on to the studios of Rafael Sobolevsky, Andrew Zaplaytynsky and eventually with Charles Castleman at Eastman School of Music where she earned a Performer’s Certificate. So Yun continued her graduate studies at the University of Nevada, Reno in the studio of Phillip Ruder and as a violinist for the Graduate-String Quartet-in -Residence, the Nightingale Quartet, earning her Master’s Degree in Performance. SoYun has participated in numerous festivals throughout the her life at BU Tanglewood Institute, Encore at Blossom Music Center, Sarasota Chamber Festival, Heidelberg Festival (thru ESM), Schelswig-Holstein Music Festival, NY String Seminar, Easter Music Festival in Greensboro, NC, Chautauqua Institute Orchestra, and Arizona MusicFest.
