Empty Bowls began as a class project in a Michigan high school to raise awareness about hunger, while also raising money to fight it. This year marks OSU’s 13th annual Empty Bowls benefit and the 10-year anniversary of the opening of our campus food pantry! Event sponsors include the Anthropology and Food in Culture and Social Justice programs, University Housing and Dining Services, Human Services Resource Center, and Center for Civic Engagement.
Event attendees will receive a ceramic bowl as a reminder of the ongoing problem of food insecurity, while supplies last. The event includes a meal of soup, bread, and dessert, along with music, activities for kids, and a silent auction. The money raised through this event will benefit two local non-profits, our very own campus food pantry and Fresh & Local, First!, which funds SNAP match at farmers’ markets in Linn and Benton counties.
Tickets are sold on a sliding scale from $5 - $20 (kids 5 and under are free) and can be purchased at Champinefu Lodge Monday - Friday between 9am and 5pm. Tickets will also be available at the door. Students can purchase tickets at the door by donating Dining Dollars to the Full Plate Fund.
Can’t make the event, but still want to contribute? Make your contribution to the OSU Emergency Food Pantry here and to Fresh & Local, First! here. Individuals and businesses can donate items for the silent auction by emailing sarah.cunningham@oregonstate.edu.
