In January 2015, Christian Nishioka and Cole Miller, both Digital Communication Arts majors, started planning a documentary in Nepal for CardioStart International, a non-profit organization that provides free heart surgery and medical care for people in third world countries. 

New Media Communications department instructor, Alina Padilla-Miller, made the initial connection with the non-profit organization. Nishioka and Miller participated in a independent project course with Padilla-Miller to engage in transnational transmedia. The project requires students to document the work of organizations in developing countries. Ultimately, the students got a lot more than what they bargained for. The April 2015 earthquake struck just days before departure.
