2019-2020 choral & vocal auditions

  • Location: OSU Community Hall, 1650 SW Pioneer Place
  • Monday, September 23: 10:00am - 12:00pm (treble voices only) & 1:00-5:00pm (all voice types)
  • Tuesday, September 24: 10:00am - 12:00pm (treble voices only) & 1:00-5:00pm (all voice types)
  • Chamber Choir Callbacks Wednesday, September 25: 12:00-1:50pm

An auditon is required for Chamber Choir, Bella Voce, Meistersingers and the Opera Workshop. No audition is required for University Chorale. Read about our choral ensembles and decide whether a placement audition is appropriate for you.

 

How to sign up for an audition
  • Visit the online audition registration form
  • Select a 30 minute time slot for your audition time
  • Enter your FIRST and LAST name
  • Click SAVE in the bottom right corner of the form
  • Enter your EMAIL address and PHONE number when prompted.

About your audition

Auditions are five minutes long and will consist of

  • Performing your song (if you don't have something prepared, you can sing a folk song like Amazing Grace or My Country 'Tis of Thee).
  • A sight-reading exam.
  • Those interested in Chamber Choir may also be given a short song to learn just prior to the audition.
  • Choral/vocal faculty will advise you on choral placement, voice lessons, and other musical opportunities.

On the day of your audition

  • Arrive 5-10 minutes before your scheduled slot.
  • Order will be determined upon arrival.
  • Fill out audition information sheet (provided at audition).
  • Sing!
  • Await email notification of choral groups and voice lesson placement.

Additional audition tips
  • Arrive early
  • Bring your class schedule with you.
  • An accompanist is provided for you at the audition
  • If you have an art song or aria that you can sing, bring it with you, along with a copy for the accompanist. For those wishing to audition for Chamber Choir, an art song or aria is required.
  • If you do not have a song prepared you can sing a folk song such as "Amazing Grace" or "My Country Tis of Thee."
  • You will be greeted by music students who know the process and can answer questions.
  • The audition panel consists of OSU choral and vocal faculty.
  • If you are interested in participating in Opera Workshop, there are additional auditions required. Information will be posted at a later date.
