CLASSES

+ Daily Masterclass 9am - 10:15am: Maria Larionoff, Margaret Baldridge, Jessica Lambert. $20

+ Violin Ensemble M & Th 10:30am-11:30am (Week 1 only) : Paloma Griffin Hébert , $20
Oregon State University Chamber Music Workshop will hold a virtual concert to celebrate the conclusion of our 2020 Violin Workshop. At the end of the week on Friday, July 17, we will present a Virtual Violin Ensemble performance comprised of our students' home recordings. The piece will be "Ashokan Farewell" by Jay Unger, arranged by OSU camp alumni, violinist and composer Søren Collins of Portland. Students will be guided through the piece in Zoom rehearsals, where they will be able to play for and "with" their peers, receive feedback and ask questions. Students will then record their individual part with the help of a pre-recorded guidance audio track, called a "click track," just like musicians who record soundtracks for TV and movies in Hollywood! The individual recordings will be compiled to create one big happy concert performance! We look forward to "seeing" you there.

+ How to Practice M 11:45am-12:30pm: Margaret Baldridge and Jessica Lambert, $20
Practicing well means getting significant and lasting improvement. In this class faculty members Margaret Baldridge and Jessica Lambert will share our favorite practice methods and apply them to specific passages in repertoire the students bring to work on.

+ Etude Class W 10:30am-11:30am: Jessica Lambert, $20
Etudes are a great way to learn the techniques you’ll need for violin-playing at every level. The Kayser and Kreutzer studies are an essential rite of passage for nearly every violinist transitioning into more advanced studies. We will approach these etudes as vignettes of technique and musicianship.

+ Bow Olympics! with Sevcik’s 40 Variations W 11:45am-12:30pm: Margaret Baldridge, $20
Challenge yourself to feats of bow stroke definition, articulation, and virtuosity in the Bow Olympics. You will learn to invigorate your performances with a varied collection of bow strokes in this class. Using selected exercises from Sevcik's 40 Variations, we will also investigate the impact of bow distribution and management on phrasing and character.  Materials will be provided ahead of the class.

+ Music Theory and Aural Skills 1:00pm - 1:45pm: Jessica Lambert, $100/week (Week 1 Beginning; Week 2 Intermediate)
A basic knowledge of music theory helps you learn music faster and understand the composer’s intentions as well as helping your sight-reading skills. Come with your instrument and be ready to sing. Materials will be sent to students in advance of class.
