STUDENTS:
- You are responsible for understanding your degree requirements, progress, and completion.
- Utilize the online resources available (MyDegrees, BeaverHub, etc.) to inform yourself on your degree requirements and options.
- Learn and understand OSU’s policies, procedures, and requirements as they relate to your academic success and/or degree completion.
- Be aware of and abide by academic calendar deadlines.
- Understand and accept that you are ultimately responsible for your education and your own decisions.
ADVISORS:
- Your advisor is a guide that helps students understand and clarify degree requirements and expectations, and university academic policy and procedures.
- Advisors are not responsible for keeping you on track to graduate, but rather to help you clarify what you need to graduate.
- Share resources and help to prepare students to be successful in their academic, personal, and career pursuits
- Promote learning opportunities that will help students define or meet personal goals and plans.
- Stay current on academic rules and procedures and academic tech resources (MyDegrees, BeaverHub, etc.)

- Minors/Certificates –
- Students are not required to declare a minor or certificate, but may do so to help learn additional skills or knowledge, as a way to fill up elective credits, or just for personal enrichment.

- All bachelor’s degrees require students complete a minimum of 180 credits.
- These 180 credits include:
- Credits required for your major
- Credits required for any minors or certificates you have
- Credits required for Bacc Core or Core Ed
- Credits required for World Languages requirement
- Credits required for Liberal Arts Core
- Credits required for BS or BA require courses.
- Elective credits if needed
- These 180 credits include:
- Minimum overall/cumulative 2.0 GPA (some majors may require students meet minimum major GPA requirements.)
- Academic Residence:
- Minimum of 150cr., or at least 45cr. of your last 75cr. completed must be completed in academic residence at OSU
- Minimum of 15 upper-division credits in the students major completed at OSU

- S/U rules
- All major required courses must be taken with A-F grading. S/U grades cannot apply to major core required courses.
- Some programs may allow S/U grading for program electives. Please see your advisor about your specific program.
- All Bacc Core and Core Ed course may be taken for S/U grading.
- Liberal Arts Core courses may be taken for S/U grading.
- A student may completed a maximum of 36cr. of courses graded on S/U basis.
- Retakes
- The second attempt of a course will count towards the students GPA. If the retake grade is lower than the first attempt, the second attempt grade will still apply. Both grades will still appear on your transcript.
- Courses completed on the third or more attempt can still apply toward your major/minor requirements (must be taken A-F grading), but do not carry credits. Students will need to take additional electives to make up for the credits not completed on a multiple attempted course.
- Grades can only be replaced if you take both classes at the same college/university. If you took PSY 201 at community college and want to retake for a better grade, you have to retake at that community college. If you took PSY 201 at OSU, you have to take it at OSU to replace the grade.
- Courses cannot be completed S/U if taken previously on a normal grade basis
- GPA requirements
- All SLCS majors have a minimum 2.0 Cumulative major GPA minimum. Some programs may require higher GPA’s for required courses, but allow flexibility in electives.
- Academic standing is based on OSU courses completed and is established once a student has completed at least one term of coursework at OSU. For more information about academic standing visit our website here.
- Program Electives
- SLCS program electives are flexible and students should check with their SLCS advisor to see if alternative courses may be applied to their SLCS program electives.

Double Dipping
- CLA double dipping rules allow students to use one course to satisfy no more than 2 degree requirements.
- ANTH 101 may be used to satisfy the ANTH major requirement and satisfy either Bacc Core/Core Ed Social Science or Liberal Arts Social Science course requirement.
- Students pursing a BS degree may not double dip courses used for the BS requirements in any other degree requirement.
- Student completes MTH251 for Bacc Core/Core Ed math requirement. This course may not then be used to apply to the 8cr. MTH/ST requirement for the BS.
