Dear WGSS/QS Students,
We, faculty representing Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies & Queer Studies at Oregon State University, are deeply concerned and saddened by the recent reports of international students across the US who are facing deportation or who’ve had their visas revoked, particularly those speaking out in solidarity with the Palestinian people. We unequivocally condemn any actions that threaten the safety, security, and academic pursuits of our international student community.
Please know that the WGSS Program & QS Program stand firmly with you during these profoundly difficult times.
We are committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where all students feel safe, valued, and empowered to express their views without fear of reprisal. We understand that the current climate may feel hostile, but we want you to know that you are a valued part of our program and our university community.
We encourage you to reach out to us – WGSS/QS faculty and instructors, the school director, or any faculty or staff member you feel comfortable speaking with – if you are experiencing anxiety, need support, or have any concerns. The Office of International Services offers resources regarding immigration matters, including responses to frequently asked questions. OSU's Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) offers support that may be helpful. We are also working to gather information on other relevant university resources that may be available to assist international students during this time and will share those as soon as possible.
Your well-being and academic success are our priorities. We are here for you.
In solidarity,
Susan Bernardin, Professor, WGSS
