The Spanish program at Oregon State University provides students with the opportunity to learn about the cultural and linguistic diversity of the Spanish-speaking world, both locally and globally. Our classes are student-centered and proficiency-based, and they prepare students to live bilingually both in their personal and professional lives.

Italy has the most UNESCO world heritage sites in the world and has been captivating people worldwide with its rich and intricate legacy. Italian words are ubiquitous in art, music, design, food & wine, and architecture.

Do you want to experience life in Japan? The Japanese language program is designed to give students the cultural and linguistic tools they need to navigate the challenges of communication in Japanese. Prepare by joining our program. All levels of Japanese classes have two weekly sessions in Japanese only. Through realistic settings, you can learn to communicate with Japanese speakers.

Earning a major or minor in German will give you a significant advantage in today's economy. Spoken by more than 200 million speakers worldwide, German continues to be one of the leading languages of science, engineering, business, arts, philosophy and history. If Dr. Heiduschke’s videos sound different from the German you’ve heard, that’s because he’s speaking Bavarian and Franconian. There’s a lot of dialectical variation in German!

The Chinese program offers three years of language instruction along with Chinese culture courses taught in English. Students can minor in Asian Languages and Cultures with a concentration in Chinese. Language courses aim at developing proficiency in both spoken and written Chinese. Culture courses cover the development of Chinese culture from ancient times to the present and its interactions and contributions to global culture.

In a globalized world, where the values of equity, diversity and social justice are of the utmost importance, a major in French at OSU will enable you to acquire a better knowledge and understanding of the diversity of francophone cultures and values. French is the official language in 29 countries around the world and an official language of the United Nations, NATO, the European Union and the International Red Cross.

Although we don’t currently offer courses in Romanian, Dr. Ana-Maria M’Enesti, Senior Instructor of French, speaks Romanian. Did you know that Romanian is the only Romance language that developed in Eastern Europe? Romanian is the national language of Romania and Moldova and is spoken by around 26 million people worldwide. If you can sing along with the pop hit “Dragostea din tei” by the Moldovan group O-Zone, then you already know some Romanian!
