OSU employees are invited to join the Faculty & Staff Mind-Body Practice Group. Meets weekly for short, simple, gently guided practices intended to offer grounding, relaxation, ease, relief, and clarity amidst a busy day. Practices are drawn from the specific disciplines and training of the instructor, but conferred in an open, accessible way. Yoga, meditation, mindfulness and more inspire the sessions, which are suitable for bodies and physical abilities of every kind. Embodiment practices are gentle and adaptable. Come as you are, do what feels right for you, and care for yourself as you need. Read each session description below to learn more! Live sessions are limited to 8 registrants and 10 people in the room. Chairs, meditation cushions, and yoga mats are available on site, be welcome to bring your own supplies as desired. Email or Call Bonnie Hemrick 541-737-2131 to request accommodations; email ContemplativeStudies@oregonstate.edu for general inquiries about the series.

Schedule + Practice Sessions

  • Tuesday, Oct 12: Moving from Within w. Jocelyn Kerr

Beginning with gentle, accessible movement that can be done from any physical position, this session will encourage you to discover movement that originates from within your body. There will be brief pause for reflection before the session continues with a led pranayama, or breathwork, practice designed to refresh and calm your mind. Please register to attend this session.

  • Tuesday, Oct 19: Grounding + (Self)Compassion w. Kate Gallagher

Ground with the body and breath, and take refuge in the care and friendliness you can offer yourself, whenever you need it. Please register to attend this session.

  • Tuesday, Oct 26: Tonglen: Giving + Receiving w. Geoff Barstow

Tonglen is a Tibetan Buddhist practice intended to cultivate compassion by inviting practitioners to visualize taking the negativity and pain of another as they inhale and offering goodwill and healing as they exhale. Please register to attend this session.

  • Tuesday, Nov 2: A Meditation for Setting Boundaries w. Holly Hisamoto

Navigating limits and learning to say “no” at work is an essential skill for longevity. Perhaps like me, you’ve learned this the hard way. Sometimes it’s difficult to tell someone we cannot do that “one more thing,” while sometimes it’s ourselves we have to convince not to do that “one more thing.” Here’s a meditation to generate compassion for yourself and others, and practice being present in the body, while setting those ever-important, life-giving boundaries. Please register to attend this session.

  • Tuesday, Nov 9: Awareness meditation practices from two Buddhist traditions w. Dee Denver

The session will introduce participants to two meditation practices focused on cultivating awareness.  One session will focus on a Tibetan Buddhist approach, and the other will share a Theravada Buddhist approach. Please register to attend this session.

  • Tuesday Nov 16: Paths to Practice:  A Brief Primer of Raja, BhaktiJñāna, and Karma Yoga with Michele Ribeiro

We are all on a journey.  What is yours?  Today’s session will briefly introduce you to the four paths of yoga that provide an opportunity to lead us towards a virtuous life of harmony, love and service. Acknowledging the inheritance that spiritual teachers have passed down, we will spend the time understanding yoga through the lens of Teacher/Guru B.K.S. Iyengar and how to align our heart, mind, and spirit for healing and health. Wear comfortable clothing that supports movement. Please register to attend this session.

  • Tuesday Nov 23: A Session w. Taylor Milam

Join the collegiate recovery coordinator as we practice a mindful breathing exercise led by Thich Nhat Hanh. Please register to attend this session.

  • Tuesday Nov 30: Moving from Within w.
