Class Descriptions

Gentle yoga includes mindful and gentle postures and movements for flexibility and strength, deep breathing and pranayama practices, guided meditation and rest. This class is suitable for most ability levels, and a range of props will or can be utilized to support and adapt the practice. A general prerequisite to fully engage this drop-in style class includes the ability to bend knees and/or get onto and up from the floor, but more robust adaptations can be made. Please bring your own yoga mat!

Flow yoga includes mindful, flowing, and more vigorous postures and movements for flexibility and strength, deep breathing and pranayama practices, guided meditation and rest. Postures will move from the floor to hands-and-knees to standing and feature vinyasa style sun salutations and other sequences that connect posture to posture, breath to movement, and mind and body. This drop-in style class is suitable for active people, and a range of props will or can be utilized to support and adapt the practice. A general prerequisite to fully engage the class includes the ability to bend knees, bear weight on the hands, and get onto and up from the floor. Please bring your own yoga mat!

Guided meditation sessions may include any range of Buddhist, mindfulness, or nature-inspired practices relevant to the training of the instructor. Meditation cushions (zafus), floor pads (zabutons), and padded folding chairs are provided at the center. You may want to bring a yoga mat if you prefer to lay on the floor. These are drop-in style sessions, open to all levels and abilities.

Quiet meditation sessions are specifically for those who have already developed an understanding of and have experience in self-guided practice, meditation technique and methodology, or open awareness. Practitioners will meet in community, light a candle, stretch and prepare individually for 8-10 minutes, then sit/lay quietly in self-guided practice for 24 minutes. Sessions will close with a dedication or simple, non-sectarian prayer of goodwill. This is not a good space for walking meditation, verbalized mantra practice, or other techniques that conflict with a quiet, still, communal space. For more instruction, try our guided meditation or sacred rest sessions.

Tibetan Buddhism incorporates a wide variety of contemplative and meditative practices, but one of the most popular is sādhanā practice.  During this practice, participants recite a specific text, visualize the images of the deities depicted in that text, and recite the mantras for those same deities.  In this class, participants will practice The Treasury of Blessings, a sādhanā focused on the historical Buddha Sakyamuni. Written by Jamgön Mipham Rinpoché in the early twentieth century, this particular sādhanā is profound but also great for beginners, with simple visualizations and a focus on the historical Buddha. In addition to practicing the sādhanā together, this class will feature short talks on sādhanā practice and plenty of time for questions!

Fluid Body, Open Mind is a guided somatic inquiry process that encourages you to creatively explore the fluid and dynamic nature of your own unique movement styles and abilities. Joseph Bailey creates a context for you to use your body, voice, and creativity to reclaim and express your inner experience through movement. The class ebbs and flows between movement and stillness; music and quiet. Fluid Body, Open Mind is rooted in a range of somatic and embodiment techniques and draws heavily upon the methodologies of Susan Harper’s Continuum and Body of Perception work. These sessions are open to all levels and abilities. Newcomers are welcome and encouraged.

An exploration of embodiment through a blend of mindful yoga asana, functional movement, contemplative wisdom, and intuitive flow.

Each week we will explore different forms of consciousness inquiry. This will cover a variety of techniques from different traditions- meditation, contemplation, movement, and sounding.
