CLUB OVERVIEW

We will read and discuss the book Emotional Awareness: Overcoming Obstacles to Psychological Balance and Compassion by the Dalai Lama and Paul Ekman, in which the authors discuss the sources of emotional experience and the intersection of Buddhism and western psychological science. Dr. Ekman’s expertise in the science of emotion provides an empirical and scientific dimension to the study and the interdisciplinary approach offers practical tools and techniques for increasing emotional intelligence and cultivating more meaningful relationships. In today’s fast-paced and stressful world, the emphasis on feeling emotions with kindness and grace, while reducing reactivity is especially pertinent. More harmonious relationships and personal well-being can result from learning to manage emotions with compassion and understanding. In this book, two revered and knowledgeable minds collaborate to explore the path to better emotional intelligence and interpersonal understanding. Book club meetings will include discussion, presentation by Dr. Edwards, meditation practice, community connections. . . and cardamom buns if you wish ;).

This program is free and open to all. Donations to CSI's efforts and ongoing programming are welcome and greatly appreciated. Sessions are limited to 20 participants and registration is required. Please kindly cancel your registration via email or Momence if you won't be able to join, so we can accommodate another participant. For accommodations related to ability, please contact us at [email protected] or please leave a voice mail at 541-737-4785.
