Biography

Research/Career Interests:

Julia Goodwin is a cultural historian whose research interests focus on twentieth-century musical issues.  In particular, she studies points of intersection between music and politics including the popularization of art music in Weimar Germany, and musical responses to the two World Wars and the Holocaust.

Background:

Goodwin holds a B.Mus. in piano performance from Oberlin College, an M.A. in history from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and a Ph.D. in modern European history from the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. She is the co-author of "The Will to Heal: Gesamtkunstwerk and Memorial Music Since 1945," an essay in Berghahn's new volume titled The Total Work of Art: Foundations, Articulations, Inspirations, which was published in July 2016. http://www.berghahnbooks.com/title/ImhoofTotal
