Biography

Kevin Helppie has been involved professionally in vocal music for over 35 years. He is a frequent solo vocal performer, in the Pacific Northwest and has sung with; Bach Cantata Choir of Portland, St. James’ Bach Cantata Series of Portland, Willamette Master Chorus, Boise Master Chorale, Festival Chorale Oregon, Portland Symphonic Choir, Bravo Vancouver, Corvallis Repertory Singers and the Oregon and Washington Mahler Festivals. Outside the Northwest Dr. Helppie has performed with the Bach Aria Group of New York, Nashville Opera, Jacksonville Florida Symphony, Detroit Concert Choir and Louisville Bach Society. He was also a member of the Robert Shaw Festival Singers and performed with that group for the Centennial of Carnegie Hall and on tour in Europe. Dr. Helppie also has co-written several Art Songs published in the Royal Conservatory of Music song anthology and has two collections, entitled World Songs and an ear-training book, Bridges to Artistry. Kevin has been a guest teacher and recitalist in Finland, Latvia and China.  Kevin has a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the University of Washington, Master of Music Degree from Indiana University and he recently retired from Western Oregon University as a Professor of Music. He’s a proud father and grand-father and enjoys photographing old barns and agricultural buildings around Oregon.
