Cultural studies and languages have always been my passion. I came to OSU to complete my master’s in Latino studies to understand the intersections between language and culture, and to be able to teach Spanish as a tool for social justice. I am convinced that language courses are a way to introduce students, of all backgrounds, to the possibility of looking at the world through another set of eyes; when you learn a different language from you own, you can see the world from different perspectives and cultural paradigms. In my basic to intermediate Spanish classes, I want students to understand the connections and interconnections between all communities in this country, and Spanish as part of it.
My research focuses on understanding notions of sexuality of Latinos in the U.S, to keep working with the community in Sexual education classes and workshops. My aim is to provide classes that are community responsive, concentrated in finding the needs of the Latino community in Oregon, and ways to support those needs.
