I grew up in the small town of Sandpoint, Idaho and have called the Pacific Northwest home my entire life. I earned a BS degree in Secondary Education from Idaho State University and taught high school English and Media Studies at South Albany High School from 2000-2005. I completed an MA in English with a focus on Film Studies at OSU in 2006. While working on my MA, I spent three years as Assistant Editor of Cinema Journal while Professor Jon Lewis was Editor. In 2011, I completed a PhD in English with a focus in Film History and Environmental Criticism at the University of Oregon, where I now teach full time for the Composition and Cinema Studies programs. Here at OSU, I teach one online section of FILM 245: New American Cinema every term for the eCampus.
I have published several academic articles in the field of Environmental Media Studies and been lead editor on two major volumes - Ecocinema Theory and Practice, published by the American Film Institute and Routledge Press in 2013, and Ecomedia: Key Issues published by Earthscan in 2016.
