General Advising for World Languages and Cultures

To declare a minor or major in one of the World Languages and Cultures programs, please go to Gilkey 213 to fill out the Change of Academic Program form.  In addition, please plan to meet with your World Languages and Cultures advisor to make sure you understand the requirements of the major or minor and how to meet them in a way that makes the most sense for you and your academic, personal and career goals.

The language program advisor will assist you with placement in the right language class; help you navigate prerequisites; answer questions related to transfer credits and study abroad programs; and connect you with other resources to help you make the most of your time as a language student at OSU.  Majors must meet with an advisor by the end of spring quarter in order to receive a registration PIN for the following academic year.  More frequent meetings with your advisor throughout your studies will assure that you stay on track with your degree plan.  In addition to language advising, students should meet with their College of Liberal Arts advisor for advising related to the Liberal Arts and Baccalaureate Core requirements.

Language Placement Tests

Placement tests for French, German, and Spanish are offered in the World Languages and Cultures office, 210 Kidder Hall, Monday through Friday 9-11 am and 1-4 pm.  Contact the World Languages and Cultures office for information about placement tests for other languages offered at OSU (541-737-2146).  Distance testing is also available for e-campus students.
