PUBLIC POLICY
MPP Curriculum
A minimum of 54 quarter credit hours are required for graduation, 34 credits in required core courses and 20 credits in the preferred area of concentration: Economic Policy, Energy Policy, Environmental Policy, International Policy, Law and Crime Policy, Rural Policy, Social Policy, or a Graduate Certificate.
Concentrations
MPP students can select a focus in one of seven established concentrations, self-design a concentration with an advisor and with the approval of the Public Policy Graduate Program Director, or complete one of OSU's graduate certificate programs or a Portland State University graduate certificate program.
Capstone course
As a public policy master’s student, you’ll complete an 11-week policy lab capstone course online, in which students work in teams to conduct policy research and analysis for an OSU School of Public Policy client partner. This collaborative effort challenges you and your classmates to apply methods and theory knowledge to emerging and relevant policy topics.
Our Vision:
To empower collaborative and innovative leadership and research to address evolving policy challenges.
Our Mission:
The MPP Graduate Program faculty and students engage in innovative research, on all aspects of public policy, that supports ethical and equitable policy decisions at all levels of government, from the local to the global.
Oregon State University (OSU) offers the Master of Public Policy (MPP) to graduate students interested in economic policy, energy policy, environmental policy, international policy, law and crime policy, rural policy, and social policy. The program is offered by faculty in the Economics, Political Science, Public Policy, and Sociology Programs in the School of Public Policy.
OSU is home to world class scientists working on many issues significant to 21st century citizens. As populations continue to become more connected and interdependent, these issues promise to affect us more broadly, more quickly, and with more impact than ever before. New forms of governance and problem solving are being tested and studied at OSU to address these issues. As an interdisciplinary program, the MPP is uniquely positioned to integrate groundbreaking science into emerging policies, practices and understandings of the world that will impact and influence local, regional and international policy decisions.
The MPP Program accepts students with backgrounds in related academic disciplines. Graduates of the MPP Program have found policy analyst, research and program manager positions in federal, state and local government as well as in the nonprofit sector. They have also gone on to work in private industry. The MPP is accredited by the NASPAA Commission on Peer Review and Accreditation and listed on the Annual Roster of Accredited Programs in conformity with NASPAA standards.
