Nirit Kurman holds a Ph.D. in Hebrew Literature from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (2018). Her work involves post-structuralist, semiotic and psychoanalytical theory in the process of reading and interpreting literary works and cultural representations. In her research about the 1920s Hebrew poetry, Kurman explored questions of gender and nationality and discussed how the poems respond to, or deviate from, the Zionist demands. Kurman’s articles about 1920s Hebrew poets were published in Israeli peer-reviewed journals. Kurman also co-authored an article about the “invention” of modern Hebrew prose. Kurman’s current project examines Hebrew prose from the 1980s and the 1990s depicting closed communities.
