At OSU, undergraduate students create original, high-quality humanities scholarship under the guidance of humanities faculty every year, whether as part of their coursework, as part of a research team, or through independent research for a senior thesis or Honors thesis. The Undergraduate Humanities Research Conference, held each Spring, is an opportunity for students to share this work publicly in a professional academic setting and for OSU to celebrate the value of humanities education and scholarship. Students who participate can apply for an official “Research Fellow” notation on their transcript while gaining professional experience, building public speaking skills, and participating lively discussions with fellow students and humanities faculty.
Undergraduate students who have conducted original humanities scholarship under the mentorship of a faculty member are invited to submit a proposal to this year’s Undergraduate Humanities Conference. Because this is a one-day conference, presentation slots are limited and selection is competitive.
How to Apply
Submit a proposal to Monique McDade by April 15, 2026. (See below for tips on writing your proposal). Your proposal should include a title, a short (@250-word) description of the project, and any scheduling conflicts you have on May 8.
A proposal is a short summary of the research project you are hoping to present at the conference. Your proposal should include a title that indicates the central topic/theme of your research project and a short (@250-word) description of the project that:
- Identifies your topic and interpretive argument;
- Discusses the research you've done (sources, texts, methods, theoretical frameworks);
- Articulates the significance of your project.
We will notify applicants whether they have been accepted and, if so, when they are scheduled to present, by May 1, 2026.
Oregon State University undergraduate students only.
