The School of History, Philosophy, and Religion combines a tradition of outstanding teaching and personal contact between student and instructor with diverse and innovative alternatives to the ways we currently understand ourselves, our environment, and our relation to society.
The School provides undergraduate and graduate education leading to baccalaureate and graduate degrees, but coursework is only the beginning! We routinely sponsor lectures and conferences with leading scholars from around the world often providing our students an unparalleled opportunity to interact with leaders and experts on a personal basis. There are also multiple active student groups and a variety of innovative community focused projects and internships that provide an opportunity to put thought into action.
We offer BA/BS degrees in History, Philosophy, Religious Studies, and a new online only degree in Applied Humanities. We have minors in History, Philosophy and Religious Studies for undergraduate students. We offer Master’s degrees in Applied Ethics, History, and the History and Philosophy of Science, which also offers a PhD. All of our graduate degrees can be minors in the MAIS degree or other OSU grad programs.
We also provide an umbrella and home for the Thomas Hart and Mary Jones Horning Endowment in the Humanities, the George and Dorothy Carson Memorial Fund, the Hundere Endowed Chair of Religion and Culture, the Spring Creek Project, the Chun Chiu Conference Series, the IDEAS Matter Lecture Series, and the annual OSU Holocaust Memorial Week Observances.
