Sally Procious Malueg Study-Abroad Scholarship

For World Languages and Cultures Majors and Minors

The Sally Procious Malueg Scholarship Fund was established to honor Sally Malueg on her retirement, and to help students studying or participating in internships in other countries.  The scholarship will be awarded in the academic year of 2023-2024 in the amount of $1000. The scholarship may be used for tuition/program fees related to any OSU-approved study-abroad program of at least one term or an independent study or internship program/project abroad approved by the Department and the student’s major advisor. 

Stipulations

The recipient must agree to:

  1. Use the scholarship Summer 2023, Fall 2023, Winter 2024, Spring 2024, or Summer 2024.
  2. Enroll in at least one upper-division course in World Languages and Cultures during each term (excluding Summer Term) between the time of the award and its use.
  3. Submit a brief written report to the WLC Awards Committee upon completion of the study-abroad program or project.
Eligibility 

Students may apply if they meet the following requirements:

  1. Major or Minor in French, German, Spanish; Minor in Chinese, Japanese.
  2. Have completed 30 hours at OSU with a minimum 3.00 GPA.
  3. Have completed a minimum of 6 upper-division credit hours in courses taught in a language other than English with a minimum 3.25 GPA.
Application

The following must be received by the WLC office no later than Friday, May 5, 2023.

  1. Completed application form (also available in department office).
  2. A current transcript (does not need to be official).
  3. A 1-2 page narrative statement describing the intended study-abroad program/project, its relevance to personal academic and career goals.
  4. Three letters of recommendation from individuals capable of assessing the applicant’s academic merit.
