In preparation for a professional music career, undergraduates may pursue a Bachelor of Music in music studies with options in music education or performance.
In addition to the specific courses required for either option, students must complete a set of core coursework.
Students interested in studying music education or performance must apply to the Bachelor of Music in music studies program. Admission requires a successful interview and audition. Auditions will occur in the winter prior to admission, or during the week prior to the beginning of fall term. Successful admission will be decided by the faculty program director or faculty committee. Those failing to gain admission may join the B.A. / B.S. in music and re-audition the following year. Students who do not pass the audition may retake the examination one time to convert from the B.A. or B.S. in music to the B.Mus.
Benchmarks Required for Completion of the Options
Each program will have a system of benchmarks that students must fulfill in order to move forward in the selected option. This will ensure that students are adhering to a standard of musical excellence and on track toward achieving industry standard preparation, as well as staying on track toward four-year graduation.
