The 2025 State University High School Teacher's Workshop:  Held with support from the American Psychological Foundation and the American Psychological Association will be on the campus of Oregon State University.

APA, the APA TOPSS Committee, the American Psychological Foundation, and Oregon State University are pleased to announce an extended summer workshop for high school psychology teachers.

This professional development experience provides the opportunity to share peer-to-peer creative ideas and learn new concepts to enhance teaching skills further.  Come:

  • Learn from experienced teacher presenters
  • Listen to faculty research presentations and a keynote address
  • Network with one another

Daria Schaffeld

Daria Schaffeld has been teaching Psychology and AP Psychology at Prospect High School in Mt. Prospect, Illinois, since 1996. She also teaches Foundations for Learning and Development, a course in her district's Education Pathway designed to inspire and prepare future educators. 

A proud Indiana Hoosier, Daria earned her undergraduate degree from Indiana University and holds a Master's in Teaching Leadership from Roosevelt University. 

She has chaired the Psychology Community of the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) since 2004 and is a dedicated advocate for high school psychology education. Daria served on the Steering Committee for the American Psychological Association's Summit on High School Psychology Education and currently sits on the College Board's AP Psychology Test Development Committee. She is especially passionate about professional development and creating opportunities for psychology educators to grow, connect, and thrive. 

Outside of the classroom, Daria is a proud mom to her son, Logan, and a golden retriever named Solo. A lifelong learner with a passion for history and exploration, her happy place usually involves a passport stamp, a curious question, and a little Aerosmith in the background.

Codey Fickes

Codey Fickes teaches AP Psychology and AP World History at Palmyra Area High School in Palmyra, Pennsylvania. He has a BSEd in Social Studies Education, M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction, M.S. in Applied Psychology and is currently working on an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership. Codey has been an adjunct college instructor in psychology, AP exam reader and Table Leader for 5 years in both Psychology and World History, and co-authored the APA TOPSS Unit Plan on Cognition.

Outside of teaching, Codey enjoys running, quilting, tap dancing, and hanging out with his two cats: Phineas Gage and Etta James.
