Advising

The School of Psychological Science (SPS) has a team of academic advisors available on the 4th floor of Snell Hall (Room 402) throughout the year. Advisors help students with sequencing of prerequisites and major requirements, OSU academic regulations and policies, graduate program and career inquiries, and much more. Please use the charts at the bottom of this page to find your assigned advisor and how to schedule an appointment. You may also click on your advisor’s name to link to their email for asking questions.

Drop-In Questions with Advising

Do you have a quick question? Psychology Advisors are available via online chat, using the Microsoft Teams messaging app. We encourage you to use this service for questions around registration or registration errors, finding OSU resources, learning more about the classes you need in the curriculum, and more! We will monitor this online chat between 9am-4pm on weekdays.

Scheduling an Appointment with an Advisor

Students: Please search the list below to find your matching “category” and read the directions for how to schedule an appointment with an advisor.

If you are a new or continuing student at OSU, you’ll be using the Beaver Hub system to schedule appointments. Psychology majors will be assigned to a “Primary Advisor” based on the alphabet of your last name, and this should be the primary advisor that you schedule with, though there are opportunities to schedule with a different advisor on the team as necessary.

Please remember: Once an appointment is booked, you can either alter/re-schedule the time of the appointment or cancel the appointment from within your Beaver Hub, on the Appointments tab. Be sure to use this feature if you find that you are not able to attend your appointment at the original time. Advisors are busy and serve hundreds of students, so it is inconvenient if a student is a “no-show” to an appointment.

New Ecampus Students (Ready to start your first term at OSU)

New Ecampus students will first complete the Ecampus Orientation modules, and then should schedule with the advisor below based on alphabet of your last name.

Once you click the link to book, you will select the Appointment Type labeled “START/Orientation Advising”. This appointment will be virtual and will be 50 minutes-1 hour in length. Do not select a shorter appointment type, as this will not provide enough time to review your processes.

New Corvallis Campus Transfer Students

New Transfer students for the Corvallis campus need to complete the New Student Orientation and then you will be directed to make an appointment with one of the advisors below. The appointment type will be “START/Orientation Advising”.

First-Year Students (Corvallis campus)

First-year students (first year after high school) are required to meet with the College of Liberal Arts Student Services Office during the Fall and Winter terms. Please find your advisor in Beaver Hub Success Team Tab or email [email protected] for assistance. 

Changing your Major to Psychology from a different program

If you are ready to change your major to Psychology from a different major/program, or you are adding on the Psychology major to an existing major, you will need to meet with a PSY advisor to officially make this change.

You will schedule with an advisor below based on the alphabet of your last name. The appointment type will be labeled as “Change of Major/Program/Campus”.

Minors: Psychology Minor, User Experience Research Minor

Students who have questions about one of the above minors, or declaring the minor, may email an advisor below (based on last name). There is not a need to schedule an entire appointment around this topic unless questions are very complex.

Current and Continuing Students in the Psychology Major

Students are assigned to a Primary Advisor based on the alphabet of your last name. You will find this information in the top block information area of your MyDegrees page. There are a couple of ways to schedule an appointment. One easy way is to navigate to Beaver Hub and then click on the Success Team tab. If your advisor is assigned, their name will be listed and you can schedule. Or, you can use the individual Beaver Hub link below in the chart to schedule an appointment. As directed or as necessary, you may also schedule with a different advisor on the team other than your assigned advisor.
